Golden Eagle Brewery Ltd was founded in 2010 when David Gaughan gained custom licence and started selling traditional cask ales brewed from his Rolleston garage. Good feedback and happy customers gave inspiration to brew more, and in 2013 an 1800L commercial brewery was established. In 2015, Golden Eagle rebranded as Eagle Brewing NZ. Between 2015 and 2017, Eagle won 20 individual medals in national and international competitions: three in 2015; seven in 2016; and 10 in 2017. Did not enter for 2018.
Eagle Brewing NZ currently operates with four staff from a 440m2 site located downstairs of Port & Eagle Brewpub, a bar and eatery situated by the Kaiapoi Riverside.
A forward thinking range of beers packed with attitude and flavour.
Our Head Brewer and Owner: David Gaughan (Yorkshireman).
Dave was born in Yorkshire, missing the flavoursome beers from England; he was determined to bring that feeling to New Zealand with ales and lagers made with real passion. Having always been involved in manufacturing for large organisations, he rarely got to appreciate the enjoyment users got from the end. Owning a business where the appreciation is experienced firsthand was one of the driving forces to open a brewery.
